Wordless Wednesday

I know that "Wordless Wednesday" is supposed to be...well, wordless, and I usually try to keep it that way. Today, though is my grandmother's birthday. She is 81. I know that most people are probably partial to their grandma's, but I really have the best grandmother EVER! She has always been there for me, always supported and encouraged me, and quite frankly, I don't think she has ever said, let alone, thought something bad or negative about anyone. She is the most positive person I know.

I have so many special memories of her (and my grandfather too) of when I was a kid. We grew up living in the same town as my grandparents. It's where they grew up and where my parents grew up. We lived 'just through the pasture' and I could walk up there to see them pretty much any time I wanted. I remember going there to help my grandma. She was always so patient with me and would give me jobs to help. I remember her pulling a chair over to the sink and she would let me wash the dishes or I could dust, all kinds of things and then she'd give me quarter for each job I accomplished. It was always way more fun to do this at grandma's house. She was never in a rush and she never told me that I did it wrong!

I am so grateful to my parents for allowing me to be able to have these special people in my life, to be able to bond and truly have a relationship with them that is and has been a source of joy and strength for me throughout my life.

When I was 25, I moved away from my hometown, but just recently moved back after 15 years, as now I have my daughters to think of, and I want to be able to provide that same opportunity to them...to hopefully have the same type of relationship with their grandparents and great-grandma. It is truly joyful seeing my girls spending time with their great-grandmother, who adores them and sees them at every opportunity.

My grandmother is a very 'young' 81! She still lives on her own, gardens, travels, plays cards, and she's been bowling for something like 50 years! As someone said to me this past weekend...it must be that small town living! I think so, and also the joy of being surrounded by your family!

So, I'd like to share a few pictures of my grandmother in honor of her birthday. Isn't she beautiful?

The first time my grandmother held her great-granddaughter's. They were about three months old and were still in the NICU.

A VERY proud great-grandmother

And a couple a little more current...these were from a couple years ago.

Thank you for sharing this day with me. I hope this gave you a small glimpse of how I feel about my grandmother and the love that we share. I am so very proud to be her granddaughter!

Hi MM. This is just so sweet. Few people are so lucky to have spent time with their grandparent or great grandparents. I never had a chance to spend more than a week with mine, in both sides. Or maybe I had but never have any recollection of it now.

What a beautifully written tribute to your grandmother! I, too, have such a close bond with my grandma. She watches my little girl when I go to work (three days), the same way her mom, my great-grandma watched me when I grew up and my parents were at work. It's a tradition that we have carried on. There's nothing more precious than having grandmas and that special bond that you have with them. I enjoy watching my daughter, who has two grandmas and two great-grandmas interact with them. Just truly precious. Thanks for sharing your story!
